Uncertain what future holds

Uncertain what future holds

Hi, this is my first post.  My fiance (56 male) and I (59 female) have been together for almost 6 years.  He has lived with

mental health issues and depression all his life, and in the time Ive known him, he has been managing pretty good. Since Ive known him, he has had 8 jobs.  After an incident at work in Oct last year, he has been struggling and on workers comp which will end soon.  Current diagnosis is major depression, border line personality and his psych said there is no way he can work.  I am scared what the future holds.  Over the years, he has crossed the boundaries several times with women (exes), so it has been hard at times.  His daughter is a drug addict, so life has been hectic and I have supported him in all areas

i do everything around the house, though he cooks and i work fullrime.  I am overwhelmed, scared, frustrated, angry and sad...life has just gotten hard...Thanks for listening

Re: Uncertain what future holds

Hey there Janne,

Welcome to SANE’s community forums, and thank you so much for reaching out. It sounds like you’re carrying a lot at the moment, and it sounds like its been a really rough time for you and your partner.

Managing your own wellbeing as well as caring for another person, working full time, and keeping the household going is a lot for one person to hold; it makes sense why you would be feeling overwhelmed, frustrated, sad and scared.

If you need some additional support at the moment, a great place to start is with your GP, or maybe your workplaces’ EAP service (if they have one)?

SANE also has a RecoveryClub program which might be helpful too! (https://www.sane.org/recovery-club )

Another support which might be helpful a the moment might be Carer Gateway, which has resources and support specifically for people caring for people with mental health struggles. (https://www.carergateway.gov.au/ )

We’re glad to have you here on the forums, thanks again for reaching out!
