This weekend many of us watched mental ill health play out on the mainstage on the AFL field between two rival clubs on the football field. We watched at the ground, on the telly, and in homes across Australia. Many of us privately questioned what we were watching, then the next day we were presented with a much more public discussion in the news and across social media.

Whilst some of these public discussions probably went too far in terms of speculation, what it did emphasise is that in order to have good conversations about mental health, we need to know exactly what it is.
